Instructions to Presenters |
For paper sessions, the 90 minutes is subdivided as follows: 15 minutes for each of the four papers, 15 minutes for the discussant's remarks, and 15 minutes for questions. When typed, a 15-minute talk corresponds to approximately 8 double-spaced pages of text on 8.5 x 11 paper. For symposia, the 90 minutes includes 20 minutes for each of the three papers (or 15 minutes if there are four presentations), followed by 20 minutes of discussion, and 10 minutes of questions. Overhead projectors and slide projectors will be available in all meeting rooms for papers and symposia.
For posters, self-standing cardboard easels are provided by the Jean Piaget Society. Each easel is large enough to accommodate 8 sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper and a title. For typical empirical studies, there might be one page for an abstract, one page for aims and background, two pages for methods, two pages for results, one page for a figure, and one page for conclusions. For ease of reading, "bullets" of main ideas and a 20-point font should be employed if possible.
Hotel & Transportation Information |
Directions for driving from the airport: Take Sepulveda Blvd. North to Lincoln Blvd., which is a left fork from Sepulveda still in the airport area. Go north on Lincoln into the City of Santa Monica; turn left on Pico Blvd. Hotel is in the first block on the left.
From the east, take the Santa Monica Freeway west to the 4th/5th St. exit. Exit from the second lane from the right in order to be in the left lane on the exit ramp. The ramp dead ends at 4th St., where you turn left on 4th. Turn left at Pico, just a few short blocks away. The hotel is immediately on the right.
From the beach areas: the hotel is on Pico Blvd. west of Lincoln Blvd. and east of 4th St. on the south side of the street.
Shuttle From the airport: The hotel has a free hourly shuttle. Call the bell desk at the hotel (310-399-9344) en route or on arrival to specify at what airline you will be at what time. In front of each airline terminal there is a green hotel shuttle stop on an island facing the arrival level. By coincidence, the hotel shuttle is also green; it is in radio contact with the hotel.
The hotel is a five-minute walk to the beach, an eight-minute walk to the Santa Monica Promenade (very lively pedestrian mall with shops, bookstores, restaurants, outdoor cafes, movies, and street performers) and a ten-minute walk to the Santa Monica Pier (historic carousel, rides, games, fishing, UCLA Marine Science Center). There is also a free shuttle to these and other tourist locations, such as the Main Street area, from the hotel. The hotel itself has two outdoor swimming pools, a salon/spa, and a fitness center.
